Rockside Cottage (sleeps 8), Flushing

Rockside is a beautiful holiday cottage in Flushing, South Cornwall with river views. This grade II listed Georgian residence sleeps 8 and has recently benefited from a full restoration resulting in a very special waterside home with a fascinating heritage.

On entering through the pillared front door, the entrance hall provides a lovely welcome and gives a sense of the history of the house, of which there is a ground floor sitting room with large comfy sofas, a wood burning stove along with a large wall hung television. Also on the ground floor is a large bedroom with a king-size double bed, with an en-suite shower room with toilet and wash hand basin.  There is a separate cloakroom and a covered store for sailing gear/paddle boards and an outside hot/cold shower.  A side door leads to a small courtyard with steps leading up to the terrace.

On the first floor, there is an open plan Neptune kitchen with views over the river, this is equipped with a large Range master electric stove/induction hob, fridge/freezer, two dishwashers, microwave, DeLonghi coffee machine, and separate cupboard for crockery with additional fridge and wine cooler. The large circular dining table comfortably seats 8 and an expansive corner sofa with a wall-hung television.

Across the landing from the family room/kitchen, and a few steps up, is an external door and bridge to a large south-facing sun terrace with table with chairs for 10, and two sun loungers.  There is a large gas barbecue.

On the first floor there is also a utility room, with a Miele washing machine and tumble dryer, and a separate cloakroom.  On the upper mezzanine floor, there is a spacious and private study with views towards Falmouth port entrance for those who need to work on holiday!!

At the top of the house are three more bedrooms with views over the river to Falmouth: a large bedroom with a king-size double bed, an en-suite shower room with toilet and wash hand basin; another large bedroom, with vaulted ceiling, with super-king size double bed; a twin bedroom; a family bathroom with roll top bath, toilet and wash hand basin.

Please note the door thresholds on the top floor are lower than normal – please mind your head.

At the front of the house, you will find private off-road parking for up to 4 cars and an electric car charging point.  There are four chairs at this private quayside so that you can enjoy your morning coffee or evening drinks as the world passes you by on the water.

The area

Flushing became the base for the Packet Ships (the postal service to Spain and beyond) at the turn of the 18th century and at that point was a more important port than Falmouth. Dutch engineers had been instrumental in the design and build of the quay, and even responsible for the village name, a derivative of ‘Vlissingen’.

Rockside has everything and more than you could possibly wish for. A perfect retreat for guests wanting a taste of the classic Cornish life – memorable and relaxing just watching the boats go by or strolling to the local beach. For the more adventurous, plenty of sailing in the estuary is possible with Flushing Sailing Club close by. There are coastal walks in all directions.

Flushing is the picture-perfect Cornish village. With welcoming streets lined with characterful fishing cottages, one gastro pub and an excellent seafood restaurant on the quay: guests who want a peaceful and relaxing break can certainly find it here. There is a well-stocked local shop open daily and an exceptional farmer’s market held every Saturday morning on a site at the edge of the village.

A regular passenger ferry can take you across the water and over to the harbour town of Falmouth, where an array of boutique shops and restaurants await. Guests can explore numerous art galleries or take the time to visit the famous Maritime Museum.
