For those of you looking for a romantic location in Cornwall for an engagement proposal, here are some suggestions.
Chapel Porth / Wheal Coates / St Agnes Head
If you’ve never been up to the top of Chapel Porth you must! Park at the National Trust car park at Chapel Porth and walk to the top, or you can park closer at Wheal Coates car park, again another National Trust car park. The views are stunning with the scenic coastline and the historic tin mine of Wheal Coates provide an amazing backdrop. St Agnes is equally an amazing spot.
Lizard Point
The most southerly point in mainland Britain, not only does it have stunning views out across the Atlantic, violent waves crashing over treacherous rocks and a picturesque, working lighthouse, there’s also a lovely cafe where you can celebrate your engagement afterwards. You can even bring your own champagne. Nearby is unmissable Kynance Cove, another amazing spot in Cornwall for a wedding proposal.
Minack Theatre
The Minack Theatre near Porthcurno in Cornwall has got to be the most romantic theatre in the country. Cut straight out of the granite cliff, the setting is dramatic, its history inspiring and the views are stunning.
Tintagel Castle
What could be more romantic than the legend of King Arthur, Guinevere and Sir Lancelot? Whether you believe the stories or not, they really do add something to the windswept wildness of this stunningly atmospheric place.
Rough Tor, the highest point in Cornwall
The beautiful, stormy wilds of Bodmin Moor would make an amazing backdrop to your proposal of marriage. My choice would have to be one of its highest points – Rough Tor with spectacular views across the moors towards the north coast.
Best Beach?
Cornwall has many beaches, and we all have our favourite. One of mine is Pedn Vounder Sand Bar near Porthcurno and west of Logan Rock. It does require some effort to reach it – it’s not close to any car park, you need to climb down steep rocks to reach the beach, and it’s only accessible at low tide. But this beach really is worth it. And if you want to make your proposal even more memorable, you could use a boat.
Another favourite is Gwithian with beautiful dunes and a 3 mile long beach, even in busy summer season you can find a quiet spot to be alone together either in the dunes or on the beach.
Best Gardens?
Cornwall is rightly famous for its gardens, especially in the spring when the camellias and rhododendrons are in their prime. What could be more romantic than the Lost Gardens of Heligan on the Roseland? These amazing gardens have a moving history and an abundance of unexpected corners to give you all the privacy you need.
Romantic restaurant
If you’re going to pop the question, why not do it in style at one of Cornwall’s very best restaurants? You’re spoilt for choice in Cornwall if you like seafood restaurants, our personal favourite in Falmouth is Hooked on the rocks at Swanpool
Breakfast with a view…
Again you really are spoilt for choice for a romantic breakfast in Cornwall. Our personal favourite is IndiDog Eatery on the Harbour also in Falmouth; amazing food, sea view, great atmosphere.
